Is using only PPTP good enough for keeping private data (passwords, browsing history, email, etc) safe on public wifi networks? Is my current security level only PPTP, or is it OpenVPN, if both PPTP and tunnelblick are running at the same time? I found out the only way for tunnelblick to log on is to have me ALREADY logged on to the OSX PPTP using frootvpn. I was surprised so I turned off my regular PPTP vpn, and then tunnelblick immediately lost its connection.
Just for the heck if it at that point, I tried to get tunnelblick to log back on using frootvpn while already logged into my PPTP setup. I set it up and it worked, at least as far as those websites that tell you your IP address were now saying my address was in Sweden. I figured, oh well, I'll just set up a normal PPTP vpn using just frootvpn. All my credentials were entered correctly. I installed tunnelblick no problem, but when I (successfully) added frootvpn to it, I just kept getting the message "waiting for server to respond", and I never connected. I have lurked here for a while, and I have recently downloaded both frootvpn and tunnelblick for OSX. Hi, super new to VPN's so I'm sorry if this ends up being ridiculous.
